Fourteen NNSS volunteers joined community classrooms March 3 to 7 as part of Nevada Reading Week, a state tradition for more than 40 years.
Designed to inspire and instill the joy and importance of reading across Nevada, this year’s theme was “Color Our World with Books.” Each employee selected two books to read to their assigned elementary school classroom at Helen Anderson Toland International Academy, a proud STEM education partner of the NNSS, in North Las Vegas, Nevada.
“My favorite part of connecting with the community through outreach events is showing the community — and in this case, students — that others care about their education, well-being and are vested in their success, too,” said NNSS Environmental, Safety & Health Business Specialist Christi Lee, who has volunteered with Nevada Reading Week for the past two years. “I think it’s important they hear, see and engage with this message from as many different messengers as possible. Reading and STEM can open a world of opportunities for students that they may not even know exist.”
