Southern Nevada’s largest showcase of science, technology, engineering and mathematics was proudly sponsored by the NNSS at the May 3 Las Vegas Science & Technology Festival Giant Expo.
The annual event welcomes thousands of students and families to the World Market Center in Las Vegas to experience STEM’s leading role throughout the region. The NNSS booths featured interactive laser cube, karate chop, 3D imaging scanning, ZAP launcher and Fire & Rescue activities.
“It is important to facilitate early STEM interactions because it allows students to channel their inner curiosity and begin developing skills to find unique solutions to problems,” said NNSS Supervisor Ajanae Williams. “The expo gives us a unique opportunity to show the community, who may not be so familiar with our history, what we do and the principles behind our work in ways that are engaging and fun.”
Organized by the Strategic Engagement & Communications team, the event provided an opportunity for NNSS STEM leaders to engage students in each demonstration and educate the public about how those STEM concepts apply to the NNSS’ dynamic mission.
“This expo was a unique experience for not only the NNSS, but for me as an engineer,” said NNSS Engineer Nabil Maatouk. “Being able to demonstrate the capabilities and innovations I use every day to accomplish our mission was an excellent forum that hopefully helps to inspire the next generation of STEM leaders.”
