An accomplished professional at the Nevada National Security Sites (NNSS), Mishon Montgomery was recently accepted into the prestigious Leadership Las Vegas program.

Montgomery first learned about Leadership Las Vegas as she was preparing to retire from the U.S. Air Force after more than 20 years of honorable service. A peer asked her if she had considered applying to the program during her transition to civilian life. After researching the program, she initially viewed it as an aspiration that felt slightly out of reach.

When Montgomery joined the NNSS in 2023, she attended the Leadership Las Vegas graduation ceremony and watched a fellow employee receive his diploma. This moment, coupled with encouragement from other past NNSS graduates, prompted her to apply for the rigorous program. The application process, described as “not for the faint of heart,” involved a comprehensive written application, competitive rounds and an interview, ultimately narrowing hundreds of applicants to a select cohort of 60. Montgomery’s acceptance in July, followed by official notification in early September, solidified her place among Las Vegas’ next generation of leaders – the G.O.A.T. (Greatest of All Time) Class of 2026.

The Leadership Las Vegas program spans 10 months, featuring mandatory monthly day-long sessions that explore a unique facet of the community. This allows class members to develop a deeper understanding of the region, its challenges and opportunities, and become more effective leaders and change agents. Recently, the new class visited the Site for a tour, informing them of the history and modern-day mission at the NNSS.

Montgomery is particularly eager to delve into the sessions on government, politics, media and the gaming industry. Beyond the structured sessions, she plans to participate in all available activities, recognizing that the program’s true value lies in active engagement. Her commitment is clear: “I will say yes to everything. I want to fully immerse myself in this experience.” As she looks forward to the journey ahead, she states, “I’m excited for the growth, impact and the legacy we’ll create together. Let’s G.O.A.T!”
