Students compete in-person for Nevada Science Bowl championship Jan. 31

24 regional teams compete to represent Nevada at Nationals

LAS VEGAS, NV – Let the battle of the brains begin!The Nevada Science Bowl is back and ready to crown a new team of champions to represent Nevada at the National Science Bowl later this year.

The 2026 Nevada Science Bowl will be held Saturday, Jan. 31, and will feature 24 teams representing 20 high schools from across the region. Students will answer questions about science, technology, engineering and mathematics in a fast-paced, question-and-answer format throughout 12 rounds. Competition heats begin at 7:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 31, at the College of Southern Nevada, North Las Vegas campus located at 3200 East Cheyenne Ave. When the results are announced at approximate 4:30 p.m., the top eight teams will each secure a cash prize for their school’s math and science departments, while the winning team will receive $5,000 in addition to advancing to the U.S. Department of Energy’s National Science Bowl.

Sponsors of the 2026 Nevada Science Bowl include the U.S. Department of Energy National Nuclear Security Administration Nevada Field Office (signature sponsor), Mission Support and Test Services LLC, and Environmental Management Nevada Environmental Program Services.

The U.S. Department of Energy’s National Science Bowl, where this year’s Nevada Science Bowl winners will compete, will be held in Washington, D.C., April 30-May 2, 2026. More than 15,000 students compete nationally each year for the opportunity to represent their school at Nationals.

The NNSS is managed and operated by Mission Support and Test Services LLC (MSTS). MSTS is a limited liability company consisting of Honeywell International Inc., Amentum, and HII Nuclear. The NNSS falls under the jurisdiction of the National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA), an agency within the U.S. Department of Energy. The Site’s operations are government-controlled and contractor-operated, and are overseen by NNSA’s Nevada Field Office, headquartered in North Las Vegas.
