NNSS volunteers all in for National Rebuilding Month

Collaboration, community and care took center stage during National Rebuilding Month, which saw 46 NNSS volunteers revitalize the home of a Southern Nevada resident throughout April.

As part of the NNSS’ multi-year partnership with Rebuilding Together Southern Nevada, NNSS team members provide critical home repairs, maintenance and cleanup tasks each April and October to help residents stay in their homes. April 2025 was dedicated to a new shower installation, painting, landscaping and debris removal for the widow of a U.S. veteran.

“These efforts are a way to honor the service and sacrifices made not only by the veteran, but also by their family, recognizing that their commitment extended beyond their service,” said NNSS Experience, Enrichment & Empowerment Administrative Specialist McKenzie Krause, who manages the NNSS’ Rebuilding Together Southern Nevada projects. “For our team, it’s personal — it’s about giving back to someone who understands what service and strength truly mean.”

A core team of NNSS volunteers dedicated after-work and weekend hours throughout April to accomplishing the bulk of cleanout and preparation tasks, enabling a larger team of volunteers to come onsite for National Rebuilding Day April 26 to bring the project across the finish line.

“We complete side-by-side, hands-on tasks that require communication and problem-solving in a meaningful, low-pressure environment,” added Krause. “Working together to make a difference creates a sense of pride and lasting connection, which ultimately strengthens team bonds in a way that the typical workplace activities often cannot. These events bring employees together around a shared purpose of serving our community.”
