Members of the Nevada National Security Sites (NNSS) leadership team and the Veterans Employee Resource Group joined local organizations in honoring military servicemen and women at the May 14 Vegas Chamber Military Affairs Committee (MAC) Night Out, of which the NNSS was a presenting sponsor.
Nine veterans from Creech Air Force Base, Nellis Air Force Base, Nevada National Guard and the U.S. Space Force were recognized for extraordinary service to our nation, with the NNSS presenting the Creech Air Force Base Senior Non-Commissioned Officer of the Year recognition to Senior Master Sgt. John “Rusty” Williams with the 489th Attack Squadron.
The annual event presents a unique opportunity for local organizations to connect with the military community. With nearly one out every five NNSS employees a veteran, the NNSS maintains a constant effort to increase veteran recruitment, retention and community involvement by supporting events like MAC Night Out.
“The NNSS is proud to have our nation’s veterans spanning our entire organization, bridging complementary Department of Defense and Department of Energy missions,” said Mission Support and Test Services (MSTS) President Garrett “Sack” Harencak, who holds more than 39 years of service with the U.S. Air Force, rising to the rank of Major General. MSTS is the management and operating contractor for the NNSS. “We’re honored to not only recognize the unparalleled contributions of our community’s servicemen and women at MAC Night Out, but also showcase how veterans serve an integral role in the NNSS’ premier national security work happening right here in Southern Nevada.”
MAC Night Out was conceptualized by NNSS Deputy Director JD Daniels in 2017 after he and his brother wanted to create a way for businesses to directly connect with the military veteran community. The concept took flight after being presented to the chamber, and an event that first saw a handful of sponsors is now supported by more than 400 people in Southern Nevada.
