After an intensive 12-week summer internship, students at the Nevada National Security Sites (NNSS) have officially wrapped up the 2024 Student Program. Throughout the summer, they gained hands-on experience through their assigned projects, collaborated with subject matter experts, and most importantly, contributed to our vital national security mission.

Established in 2019, the program is designed to acclimate students to the workplace and provide relevant work experience through meaningful projects; provide mentorship; host peer-to-peer networking events, social activities and volunteer opportunities; offer knowledge and skill-based courses; and give insight into the important work done at the NNSS.

“This year’s intern class brought new energy, fresh perspectives, and dedication which have made a significant impact on our work,” said NNSS Student Program Coordinator Terri Shafer. “They tackled challenges head-on, contributed innovative ideas, and truly became part of our team. We’re excited to see where these students land next – and are happy to share that some interns are staying onboard with us throughout the schoolyear.”

At the end of each summer, students present to their directorate leadership the project or tasks they were assigned during their internship. From there, one student from each directorate is selected to present in front of the senior leadership team. Congratulations to the 10 selected students (out of more than 100 students), listed below with their respective directorate:

Applications for the 2025 Student Program will open in October.
