NNSS wraps up its fourth year inspiring Las Vegas STEM community

Nevada National Security Sites’ (NNSS) popular STEM Saturdays program has completed its fourth season, hosting over 500 participants throughout the 2025-2026 academic year. The program, which is a partnership between NNSS, Clark County School District and the Atomic Museum, brings together the Las Vegas community for hands-on presentations covering a variety of topics in science, technology, engineering and mathematics.

Over the last eight months, students of all ages had the opportunity to meet STEM professionals and participate in unique educational experiences such as operating drones, launching high-speed projectiles and creating 3D digital models in real-time with NNSS engineers, and spraying a fire hose with NNSS Fire & Rescue. Special sessions included a presentation from the Nevada Flight Crew, led by the Nevada Afterschool Network, and the NNSS 75th anniversary celebration at the DISCOVERY Children’s Museum.

Since its inception, STEM Saturdays has reached thousands in the Las Vegas community, providing exposure and access to STEM topics to influence academic and career aspirations and inspire the next generation of scientists, engineers and innovators. STEM Saturdays is a free event that occurs monthly during the academic year at the Atomic Museum.

“Watching STEM Saturdays grow over the past four years has been such a rewarding experience,” said Brianna Majdanac, outreach coordinator at NNSS. “The enthusiasm and expertise NNSS presenters bring to each session has been crucial in growing the program. Not only do attendees learn about the mission-critical work performed at the NNSS, but they engage with the presenters one-on-one to discuss the available pathways to pursue a career in STEM. As STEM Saturdays continues to grow and new community partnerships are developed, the NNSS continues to make a huge impact on STEM education in Southern Nevada.”

STEM Saturdays events will resume in the fall for the 2026-2027 academic year. Until then, students, families and community members are invited to join NNSS for more free STEM activities at the Las Vegas Science & Technology Festival Giant Expo, sponsored by NNSS, on Saturday, May 2, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at The Expo at World Market Center. Admission is free and offers attendees a full day of one-of-a-kind science and technology experiences and entertainment.
