Year-round, NNSS employees make a difference in STEM education and community outreach. Learn more about our April to June 2025 highlights.

Propelling student pursuits with Project 150
The NNSS continued its multi-year investment in Project 150 with the 2025 scholarship award program. During an award ceremony, NNSS Senior Engineer Garrett Oberdin joined a panel of industry leaders to share insights in identifying and exploring educational and professional opportunities, networking, overcoming setbacks and staying true to your passion.

Promoting pathways for STEM success
The NNSS partnered with Nevada Flight Crew, a Nevada Afterschool Network program for students ages 12 to 16 to gain STEM experiences beyond the classroom. Students met with members of the NNSS’ Enhanced Capabilities for Subcritical Experiments and Stockpile Experimentation and Operations teams for a first-hand look at how scientists and engineers collaborate to gain the data used to support stockpile certification and national security.

Science on display
The NNSS exhibited multiple STEM displays at the Las Vegas Science & Technology Giant Expo May 3, proudly sponsored by the NNSS. Students experienced interactive laser cube, karate chop, 3D imaging scanner, ZAP launcher and Fire & Rescue activities.

In action for National Rebuilding Month
Collaboration, community and care took center stage during National Rebuilding Month, which saw 46 NNSS volunteers revitalize the home of a Southern Nevada resident throughout April as part of the NNSS’ multi-year partnership with Rebuilding Together Southern Nevada. NNSS team members provided critical home repairs, maintenance and cleanup tasks for the widow of a U.S. veteran.

Out-of-this-world STEM
During the final STEM Saturday of the 2024-2025 academic year, NNSS personnel presented how we support NASA Artemis astronauts with the Nevada Space Proving Grounds, a premier mission-scale testing and training center for all people and equipment bound for the Moon, Mars and beyond. Students then created a colorful scale of the solar system.
